Expressing emotions/Photo Connotations
In this particular task we were asked to represent different emotions. We focused primarily on conveying the emotions using the people and the props (like the gun and the money) rather than the backgrounds and the lighting. The images I feel conveyed the emotions the best were love, danger and wealth. I think that in love the hand holding obviously conveys an apparent intimacy and creates an easily recognizable emotion for audiences to infer. I think that in danger the person being small creates a sense of fear and weakness and the addition of the gun helps to further convey fear and potential danger to audiences and in wealth I think that besides the money being obvious , the way he's positioned is almost cocky and nonchalant which is quite a typical attitude for a person of wealth. The images I feel represented emotions the worst were weakness and fear. Although I think the subject being positioned small in weakness is good, I feel that doesn't accurately represent weakness and could be interpreted in many different ways for example sadness. Plus, I feel the lighting is to bright for somebody to be perceived as weak and should potentially be dimmer to create a duller mood and atmosphere. If we were to recreate the image I would maybe have somebody standing tall and mocking the person on the ground to really emphasize that they are weak and to create clarity within the image .I like the dim lighting in the image of fear as it creates a more realistic state of panic however I feel that the image displaying fear could be misconstrued as something like shock or realization. If we were to reshoot the image I would have a person running away from someone or something that is clearly dangerous in order to assert a sense of fear like a person running away for somebody with a knife or a gun. I feel this would clearly portray the emotion and therefore would be easier for audiences to interpret.
