Film- Cruella

Brief Analysis-

· A lot of red and black – Used to indicate murder, hatred or evil,

· Dark tones- Used to indicate death,

· Repetition of fire- Used to indicate action,

Who or what appears most in the poster or trailer? - Cruella as she's centered and the colour black.

If there are characters in the poster and in the trailer, how are they depicted? For example, gender, race? - There are 3 women and 2 men below Cruella with one woman being black and the rest being Caucasian. One woman below Cruella appears to be about 20-30 years old, of middle class based on the way she’s dressed and the watch she’s wearing, she appears to be intelligent as she has a camera and is wearing glasses. The Caucasian woman appears to be middle aged and middle/high class based off the outfit and accessories she's wearing. She seems to be evil as she’s wearing all black and almost appears to be looking down on you. Both men seem to be in their 30’s and both seem to be middle class based upon their outfits, however they don’t seem to be too intelligent based upon their facial expressions. Finally, Cruella appears to be in her 30’s and looks good and evil, based upon the black and white in her hair, which could signify a light and dark within her. Plus, her facial expression seems to be evil - a slight cunning smirk adorned with red lipstick gives the impression that she may not be good.

When and where is the film set? - The film is set in the past based upon the cars and the fashion and the fact that there appears to be a masquerade ball. It seems set in England as there’s a union jack at the start of the trailer and there’s a van that says Tottenham, London on it.

Who is the film made for/Who is the target audience? - The primary target audience is children and teenagers. However, the secondary target audience is families and parents who are taking their children to see the film. I think it’s targeted more at girls than boys because the main protagonist is female, however as it’s a Disney film I think it could appeal to anybody.

What genre is the film? - I think the genres are drama and comedy as there appears to be a lot of action in the trailer with things like fire and knives, yet due to the fact it’s a Disney film it’ll probably include comedy.

What themes are evident in the film? - I think the main themes are revenge and anger. As there appears to be a conflict between Cruella and another character to the point where Cruella brings a knife out, so I think that could imply payback or annoyance.

Synopsis- The film centers around the life of Cruella who revels in the fact that she’s a bit crazy and renowned as a psycho. It shows the highs and lows of her life and shows her quest for power and dominance, which therefore leads her into a life or crime. This then leads her to essentially lose the plot and become a bit mad.

Task 2

Video assist operator

What the role entails? - Take the images generated by the film or digital cameras and display them on video monitors so the director and other crew members can see exactly what’s been shot.

What skills do you need? - Concentration, knowledge of video/film production, communication.

How do you get into that job/what route could you take? - The most common route to becoming a VAO is though working at a junior level for camera hire companies or video playback companies.

Editor

What the role entails? - The editor puts together (cuts) the pictures (rushes) as they come in from the set.

What skills do you need? - Storytelling, visual awareness, using editing software, attention to detail.

How do you get into that job/what route could you take? - The traditional route to becoming an editor is to start as a post-production runner or trainee and go on to become an assistant editor.

Sound Mixer

What the role entails? - Sound mixers head up the department responsible for all the sound recorded during filming.

What skills do you need? - Hearing, understating sound, knowledge of equipment, attention to detail, film production.

How do you get into that job/what route could you take? - A good route to becoming a sound mixer is to start as a trainee and work your way up.
